How to clean your computer from viruses IRC-Worm

Hey folks,

New member here so if I am not posting right please let me know.

It seems I have some sort of worm which sends emails out to all my contacts saved within my hotmail account. I did a virus scan (using Avast) and no threats were found.

I dont know if a HiJackThis log will help but I will include one anyway:

Week Two:

1. This week, what did you eat? What did the worms eat? I have again, been running around quite a bit so lots of carbohydrates for me. My worms this week got four eggshells from the baking that my roommate and I have done at different intervals, as well as some of banana peels. Also, I have accidently been buying apples with textures I don’t like, so they have gotten some of those remains. This thanksgiving I am at home, but my roommate will be around to continue to feed them.

This past week the worms ate:

1/8 apple and its core

4 egg shells

2 banana peels

2. What’s going on in your bin? I am still amazed at how well the smell is kept inside the box. (Good job Miranda on the construction). Additionally, the smell of the box has changed from rotting ugliness to a more natural decomposition smell. That was exciting to discover as it reminds me of a farm or forest, not my urban apartment setting. It also was a relief because it seemed like the bin was working the way it should.

3. What if any problems are you facing? My one question is about cereal: if I have extra of something that is sweet, like Honey Nut Cheerios, can I put that in the bin? Will the artificial sugar be harmful to the worms?

click there. Check the box that says 'Turn off system restore on

4. Use an Anonymous IP address when surfing the web!

This is a huge step in keeping bugs off your system forever!
Bugs get onto your system and retrieve info about you by
capturing your IP address. Your IP address tells everyone who
you are, where you're located, your system info, what kind of
Windows you use, your browser, etc. An anonymous IP hides your
IP by using an Anonymous address and makes you invisible to
everyone, including Spyware and Ads! Here is an address to a

Please follow these instructions carefully for Microsoft
Internet Explorer:

a) Scroll down on the page from the above link. On the list,
look at the numbers listed under IP:Port Host name. Make sure
the uptime on the right is at least 97 to 99 %.

b) Go to the Control Panel in Windows.

c) Open up ' Internet Options'.

d) Click on the 'Connections' tab on top.

e) Click on 'LAN Settings'.

f) Put a check-mark where it says PROXY SERVER.

g) In the Address box, copy and paste the IP address listed on
the proxy list (for example: 148.244.150.58 – These are the
numbers shown BEFORE the ':' (semi-colon).

h) Copy and paste the port number into the PORT box (for
example: '80' – the number immediately after the semi-colon).

i) Click OK, and OK again to close, and close everything.

j) Go ahead and open up your browser and try surfing the
internet to test.

Thats it! You are now surfing invisibly!

For the Firefox browser:

a) Open up the browser and go to 'TOOLS' then 'OPTIONS'.

b) Go to 'GENERAL' on the left, then click the 'Connection
Settings' button below.

c) Choose 'Manual' proxy config from the choices.

d) Check the 'use the same proxy' checkbox.

e) In the 'HTTP Proxy' box, copy and paste the anonymous IP, and
the PORT number in the PORT box (remove the zero first).

f) Click OK, then OK again to close.

g) Now test your browser by surfing the web.

You are now invisible.

**note – if your browsing gets super slow or has a problem, look
for another IP and Port number on the list and try again. Most
of the time the proxies from Mexico work best. Happy surfing!

5. Download and install the new FIREFOX browser!

Please get rid of Microsoft Internet Explorer on your system! It

Defrag hard drive problems

Disk Defragmenter Microsoft Management Console (MMC) is based on the full retail version of Executive Software Diskeeper. The version that is included with Windows XP and later provides limited functionality in maintaining disk performance by defragmenting volumes that use the FAT, FAT32, or NTFS file system.
To start Disk Defragmenter MMC, use one of the methods.

Method 1: Use the Properties of Your Local Disk
1. Open My Computer.
2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.
3. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now.
4. Click Defragment.
If you have more than one hard disk, repeat this process for each hard disk listed.

Method 2: Use Computer Management MMC
1. Start Computer Management MMC (Compmgmt.msc).
2. Click Disk Defragmenter.

Hard Disks store data in concentric circles on a disk. Each circle is called a track and is made up of a number of sectors each holding data in a block of a few Kb in size). As files are usually much bigger than a sector, they are spread across many sectors and sometimes many tracks.

Over time, as files are deleted and created, it may not be possible to store a file in consecutive sectors and reading it may take longer as the head has to wait for the other sectors and this can be a rotation or more which is a long time. It's fascinating watching the head move across the disk and a tribute to precision engineering that it can so quickly and precisely move to a specified track.

Because the disk read head floats on a microscopic cushion of air that is less than the thickness of a human hair, you don't normally get to see the head moving as its in a case where the air is kept free of impurities, dust etc. Removing the case (as in the disk in this video Hard Disk) means that the disk is doomed to earlier failure though how soon depends on the air quality.

More disk reads or writes means slower file I/o and that's when defragmentation software comes in to reorganize the sectors on disk. Windows has a rudimentary defragger but you can get a powerful open source one that does every version of Windows from NT onwards (not 95 or ME). Written in C, UltraDefrag is at version 4.0 and is designed to defrag as fast as possible. It can also move files to optimize for fast disk operations and also defrag during the boot up for those system files and registry that can't be defragged during normal operation.

The thought of developing defraggers has always been a bit scary as the potential to mess up a disk seems quite high so congratulations to Dmitri Arkhangelski the author and his team for their work which is GPL licensed.

One of the reasons why your Windows computer become slow over time is because the files on the hard drive can become fragmented. What is that?

As you start filling your hard-drive with new programs, documents, and other files, the operating system tries to find vacant places on the hard-drive to place these files. Like an artist who breaks a tile into multiple pieces to form a mosaic, your computer will break these file into fragments and store them in different places across your hard drive.

When you load a program or open a file, the computer will have to first assemble these “fragmented” pieces thus decreasing the performance. And fragmentation is not just an issue with your computer’s hard disk but even removable devices like the USB Flash Drive or your external drives can also become fragmented with time.

Windows Disk Defragmenter from Microsoft

A Disk Defragmenter pre-arranges all the “fragmented” pieces of a file close together thus reducing the time it takes to open files or load programs on your computer. Now, the problem with built-in windows solutions is that the app will ignore all files smaller than 64MB. But Microsoft offers another free, more powerful but lesser-known utility called Contig (short for contiguous) that lets you have more control over the defragmentation process. Contig lets you to defragment individual files, folders, or the entire hard drive. But Contig is command prompt based so you can look at Power Defragmenter – an easy and more visual interface for Contig.

Using Power Defragmenter, you can visually select files, folders, or the drive you wish to defragment, and Power Defragmenter will internally use Contig to perform the defragmentation process. You may use Contig (Power Defragmenter) on computers running Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Like other screensavers in Windows, defrag screensaver starts automatically when a system has been idle for a few moments. It does not require any user interaction during the defragmentation process.

Why do you have so many partitions? As far as I know you can't defrag the WBFS partition but I dont see a reason why you couldn't defrag the others. Someone else may have a different answer. It wont free up much space and probablly wont help the spinning down.

Creation and consequence of fragmented fles
Fragmentation can drastically slow your computer down. When saved by the operating system, fles are broken into fragments and dispersed across the entire hard disk. Backstory:
antivirus pro 2010 infected comp1 went to reboot in safe mode and it freezes at the hp start screen (as it does when no hard drive is in)
displaying what f buttons do what( ie. system recovery and esc is boot menu)
as its frozen no button works .

slaved the vista drive to xp comp to try and remove it manually and all folders that the antivirus pro files are in (including documents and settings/all users )
i cant open .

only have small amounts of time accessing the slave drive as its seperate psu (yup) shuts down after a while

cant get the regestry files affected cos i dunno how to edit non booted reg files …

some help here would be hot .

but if its bad news i suppose a format is in order.

MSE is available as standalone 32-bit and 64-bit downloads for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. It’s very easy to install Security Essentials using it is even easier than one might expect.

Updates and upgrades are automatic, so there’s no need to worry about having the latest protection. It’s easy to tell if you’re protected – when the Security Essentials icon is green, your status is good. It’s as simple as that.

i’ve been using AVG anti virus for years and have been very happy with it. i’ve even tested it by introducing known virus files into my computer and it caught them immediately every time.

If your smartphone sports an OLED display then you probably know from experience what direct sunlight can do to the visual, and if you wanted great contrast and viewing angles you simply had to sacrifice some outdoor performance, that is until the Samsung Wave came along.

And we have a video made by Dutch portablegear showing the Samsung Wave in action outdoors, and although we don’t understand the commentary the images speak for themselves, staying readable and usable despite the bright environment.

With the Samsung Wave’s Super AMOLED the colour saturation is maintained throughout the video and shows that Super AMOLED is a tech a cut above the rest.

Microsoft has used this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to release its Windows 7 Phone Series, the tech giant’s latest OS for mobile phones.

The new OS is a step away from applications and instead moves towards functions according to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

“It’s all about the phone and how consumers react to the device,” he said in a press conference.

The new system follows the launch of WinMo 6.5 in late 2009, which was largely criticised for being out of date before it was launched.

The Windows 7 Phone Series is built around a range of ‘live tiles’, which display real time content from your chosen web sites and social networks in a Sony Ericsson Xperia-esque kind of way.

The tiles allow you to keep tabs on your mates’ status updates and on the latest cricket results at a glance of your screen.

The new interface also contains a series of six “hubs”, which compile related content from the web, applications and services, and appear as sliding walls navigated through a touch interface. The hubs include people, pictures, games, marketplace, music and office.

The music hub is integrated with Zune software while the games hub works with with Xbox Live allowing you to display your Xbox avatar and access multiplayer games and messages from the service.

Despite this ability to do a lot more with your phone than text your mum, Microsoft has been quick to assure it’s doing something different on the smartphone front.

“Phones looked like PCs, but a phone is not a PC, it’s smaller, more personal,” said Joe Belfiore, vice president for Windows Phone.

Microsoft has also promised that third parties will be able to create content for the hubs, tiles as well as further 7-Series applications

The first handsets to use the new operating system will be available later this year from big names including Samsung, LG, HTC and Sony Ericsson.

Olympic Luge tragedy video appropriateness and dialog. The Olympic luge tragedy video continues to be a viral desire of Internet users. Nodar Kumaritashvili died on Friday during a training run down the Whistler track in Vancouver, British Columbia preparing for the Olympics.

The Cellar: Reportedly designed by Disney imagineers, this below-street-level hideaway in downtown Fullerton is full of strange bric-a-brac and faux old-time-y touches. Zimzala: The bar at the Shorebreak Hotel’s wonderful restaurant isn’t for Old School types – it isn’t a dimly lit love nest, a la the old French 75. But if you like a little hipness with your romance, this is the place to be. The bar staff are smart and helpful, the Happy Hour food (they call it “coastal Mediterranean”) is some of the best in the county for the price, and surroundings are divine. Wander out onto the terrace for a breath of ocean air, or better yet find a spot near one of the fire pits in the hotel’s interior courtyard — one of the prettiest spots in downtown H.B. 500 Pacific Coast Hwy., Huntington Beach. 714-861-4470.

Cannons Restaurant: We like this place for its spectacular view of Dana Point Marina: it sits right at the top of the cliff overlooking the snug harbor. And unlike some clifftop bars we know of (that means you, Las Brisas), it’s low-key and friendly, not frenetic and meet-market-ish. Cannon’s has also got a popular Happy Hour. There are nice discounts on drinks and some grill menu items from 4:30 to 6:30 Sundays through Fridays.

Overall the ads during Super Bowl XLIV were pretty lackluster. Even the seven I picked below as my favorites weren’t really all that great.

The one thing I didn’t particularly care for was the number of ads that showed guys to be spineless, jerks, and cheaters, among other less than desirable characteristics. On the face of it, it just seems dumb. I mean, who do you think the largest group of people are watching the Super Bowl? It’s guys, dudes, men, males, etc. Is this the way to influence them to buy your product? Anyway, here are my favorites.

7 Best Super Bowl XLIV Ads

The Late Show With David Letterman Ad with Dave, Oprah, and Jay Leno – This is the one ad that made you go what, wait, what? Plus, it was funny and a brilliant marketing move for both Jay and Dave, even though it was supposed to be an ad for >The Late Show. It got people talking about both of them. Plus, it was a nice play off the Dave and Oprah ad from 2007 when CBS has the Super Bowl last.
Ad Result: While my favorite, it won’t get me watching either of the late night hosts’ shows.

Snickers Ad with Betty White and Abe Vigoda – This was the first ad that at least got me chuckling. Great representation of not feeling like yourself, even if a Snickers bar won’t really get you going, the ad was funny. Plus, Betty White is the queen of comedy and has a great sense of humor about herself, which is showed off quite well in the ad.
Ad Result: I won’t be buying any more Snickers than I already occasionally do.

Bud Light Stranded Ad – Nice parody of Lost, which right now is at the top of my TV viewing thinking, so really liked this one.
Ad Result: I don’t drink, so had no shot of working.

Doritos House Rules Ad – Little kids are funny, especially when they do something you aren’t expecting, like telling his mother’s suitor to keep his hands of his mother and his Doritos.
Ad Result: I won’t be buying any more Doritos than I already occasionally do.

Google Parisian Love Ad – It’s always interesting just how little you actually need to tell a compelling story, like a few search terms for example. It was cute, told a nice story, but didn’t quite get the people that were getting all weepy over it, it wasn’t that good of a story. Mostly, I was just shocked to see an ad for Google on my TV, as I don’t recall ever seeing one before.
Ad Result: I already pretty much use Google as my main search engine and wasn’t planning on changing anytime soon.

Bridgestone Your Tires or Your Life Ad – I’m just partial to misunderstood words and sound a likes in my comedy, so enjoyed this one. But, seriously didn’t expect the wife to be hot.
Ad Result: Don’t see myself seeking out any Bridgestone tires the next time I need new tires.

HomeAway.com Hotel Hell Vacation Trailer Ad – It’s the Griswolds on vacation, so I’m in right off the bat. Haven’t gone and watched the whole short film yet, but probably will.
Ad Result: May get me to their site to watch the entire video, but doubt I will be using their service to book any future trips.

So, overall there weren’t a lot of very memorable commercials and the ones that were don’t really do a good job at what a commercial is supposed to do, get you interested in spending your money on their product or service.

The cost of a 30-second spot for Super Bowl I in 1967 was $42,500 on CBS and $37,500 on NBC. It was the only time the game was broadcast on two networks. Twenty years and 20 games later, the cost had spiraled to $600,000. For this year’s game, CBS is asking $2.6 million.

The amount of production and hype that goes into these Commercials is near movie status.

4.) LMFAO….a beaver! lol…..playing a violin lol….it works on so many levels lol!

2.) Awwwww <3, the cow reminds me of Norman from City Slickers.

1.) By far the best commercial this year.

Something I wanted to mention were those horrible Godaddy.com commercials. Where do they get the money to produce so many tasteless, unoriginal, and not funny commercials.

Bridgstone’s Hangover/FREE WILLY commercial was hilarious, and I fell over laughing watching Betty White get sacked.

The Simpsons Coke commercial was cute but I think I excepted something a little more funny and outlandish from THE SHOW THAT WELL NEVER END. It just pales in comparison to last years commercial with the fighting parade float balloons Stewie, Underdog, and Charlie Brown. How do you top that

Either way these commercials will be remembers for weeks to come and we’ll anxiously next year’s.

Ladies and Gentlemen… welcome to the fourth annual roundup of the best and worst Super Bowl commercials:

Forget Tivo… these ads are worth watching.

1. Kia. Sock Puppets are living it up – driving a Kia, going to parties and clubbing… then is back to reality: in back of a SUV with some kid in the suburbs. One of the most creative ads yours truly has seen in a long time.

2. Bud Light's Lost Ad (Stranded). Very funny Lost parody. The only thing missing was Hurley getting his groove on.

3. KGB. One person uses KGB's answer service to find out what “I Surrender” means in Japenese. One used a search engine to find out what the term means and he gets hammered. Awesome spot (though the KGB spot with the clowns at the birthday party was even funnier.)

4. Betty White and Abe Vigoda for Snickers. At her age, Betty White can still prove she's one tough cookie – excuse me, candy bar.

5. Motorola's Motoblur. Megan Fox in a hot tub? She sends her pictures out… and it affects America's productivity.

Skip these with your DVR

1. Go Daddy and Danica Patrick. Here we go again… the low rating of both spots in USA Today's Ad Meter proves this concept is tired. And speaking of tiring… Isn't everyone sick and tired of hearing about Miss Never Won A Race? Good luck in NASCAR lady, you'll need it. Second year in a row Go Daddy has topped the worst category in Super Bowl advertising.

2. Audi's Green Car Ad. Overzealous eco-cops? Yes, it can happen – wait until they get their own TV show.

3. Boost Mobile. The Chicago Bears Super Bowl Reunion proves you can't go home again. At least one-time Boost Mobile pitchman Master Shake from Aqua Teen Hunger Force didn't show up saying “Where you at, dawg?” (Wait… it would've made the ad more tolerable..)

4. Any Doritos Ad. None of them funny. Period. (In one spot, I wanted to see more of the hot mom – not “Webster”.)

5. Cars.com. …and at age 17, saved everyone from a tornado. Different script, same awful execution from last year's spot.

Other thoughts:

- Hard Hitting. A lot of hard-hitting plays in this year's Super Bowl. And that was just in the commercials!

- For the Super Bowl Halftime Show, entertain yourselves dammit! Reading the tweets about The Who's halftime performance was more entertaining than watching the show itself.

- D'Oh! The Simpsons' Coca-Cola ad looked horrible in HD… was expecting Bart to say “Nobody Better Lay A Finger On My Coke.” (hmm… could be taken a lot of ways)

- Unnecessary Super Bowl Ad Of The Year: Google. You are the undisputed search-engine king. Why do you need to spend $2 million on a Super Bowl ad?

- We NEED to take our clothes off to have a good time. In a rather ironic twist, two ads aired back-to-back – with a partial nudity theme. One of CareerBuilder, the other for Dockers.

- Controversy? What Controversy? So this was the Tim Tebow ad everyone was talking about? What was the fuss?

- The ad everyone was talking about – but wasn't really an ad! CBS' Late Show promo featuring David Letterman, Oprah Winfrey, and Jay Leno? If she can get those two rivals together, you'd think it's possible she can unite Cubs and White Sox fans? …nah.
