Chet Gould’s classic funny strip Dick Tracy got a build over in the 1961 though-provoking cartoon series.

Dick Tracy was the point man of this cartoon series. He assigned cases to his junior detective/comic sidekicks Joe Jitsu (a karate Charlie Chan wannabe) and Go-go Gomez (a expeditiously hastily Mexican detective) . Both sidekicksa are voiced by Mel Blanc (the notify of Bugs Bunny) . These junior detectives combat cases with classic rogues’ gallery of Tracy’s villains like Flattop, Itchy, Mumbles, Prune face, etc.

These so-called sidekicks were so distinguished stereotypes. However this was theideal of most 1960’s animation and cartoons. The aninmated stereotypes were normal for TV at that time

The animation is righteous and crisply done for 1960 TV animation, unlike the 1960’s Marvel tantalizing pictures or filmation stuff with DC heroes (with Superman, Batman,etc) . It is splendid in entertaining standards, not impartial lips lively like Clutch Cargo. It was UPI Studios who also did Mr Magoo cartoons, so there was a sense of quality to it. In my notion, It fared better than most of today’s stuff tv animation has to offer other than Hanna Barbara animation, which to me was and is the gold standard of cartoon excellence. I assume Ed, Edd and Eddie for an example of the worse of today’s captivating stuff. This DVD has no extra features, impartial marvelous orderly family fun. It is worth getting for a keepsake of huge 1960’s animation.

However if you want righteous inspiring TV Tracy adventures, I am holding out and waiting for TV Funnies with eight miniature Tracy Episodes (which are unavailable for DVD at this time) . Until then, this will have to do for my TRACY fix.

At last on DVD, here are all 130 UPA five petite cartoons. Hailing from 1961, this series was created with Dick Tracy creator, Chester Gould as consultant. However, it’s a very light, slapstick-style cartoon with the modernistic, minimal stare UPA was known for. In the behind ’50s- early ’60s this was all the rage, as animators tried to gain petite animation techniques to fit TV’s microscopic budgets. At the same time, they had to compete with stock theatrical cartoons making their contrivance to the puny camouflage, which had lavish studio facilities and bottomless wallets.

Hanna-Barbera would be the winner in the TV sweeps, offsetting tiny animation techniques like characters running past the same tree or barber pole again and again and reusing heads and bodies by animating in layers (cels), with glorious dialogue, top notch convey actors, whimsical character effect, heroic graphic style and a fresh paintbox of gleaming colors.

UPA is better-known for Mr. Magoo, whom UPA successfully transferred from award-winning theatrical cartoons to a number of TV series (which have yet to effect DVD) . Shown initially in syndication and later as The Dick Tracy Prove, this UPA series was extremely current. Tracy has an office job in this expose, merely dispatching jobs to his team of crime fighters: Joe Jitsu, Go Go Gomez and Hemlock Holmes (a British bulldog) . They may be considered stereotypes by some viewers, but the opinion was to pit diverse and exaggerated obedient guys against the curious terrible guys who people Gould’s comics. Usually cartoons took these ideas straight across from the movies. Joe Jitsu is piece crime-solver par excellence Mr. Moto, and incorporates the then-current rage for ju-jitsu. The Retouchables, the theme music cues us, occupy the Keystone Kops. Rather than the sunless tone of Gould’s strip, however, the series has the light, slapstick tone echoing kids’ TV of the time.

The packaging is an glorious album which opens to suppose four one-sides discs. Mine came packaged with a free 64 page dark and white funny of Gould’s first three Dick Tracy adventures (which have nothing in current with the cartoon) advertising the view to reprint Gould’s entire laughable series. That may be a limited-time premium. At any rate, here’s UPA’s first entry on DVD; let’s hope Mr. Magoo isn’t far leisurely.

As a stale Jew who is often necessary of films about Judaism, I can understand why some Buddhist reviewers have disparaged “Tiny Buddha” as overly-simplistic. For a lifelong practitioner of Buddhism, it probably is. Then again, people have to inaugurate somewhere. Those of us who seriously practice a spiritual path – whatever it may be — tend to forget that intro level materials are impartial that — basic intro. While the average Buddhist might already know the legend of Buddha’s life by heart, the expansive majority of non-Buddhists here in the USA do not. Also maintain in mind that this is a PG family film, not an historical documentary. My impression was that the film was primarily aimed at children, since the main characters is a dinky boy, and the story-within-the-story about Buddha’s life is presented as a series of scenes in a book he (the American kid) is reading. Granted, the film does have an sure idealized, fairytale quality, but then again, so do the all those sand-and-sandals films about Jesus. Which is why I would position “Cramped Buddha” in the same genre. I happen to like this kind of pagentry, so I enjoyed “runt Buddha” for the icongraphy that it is.

On the technical waste, the cinamatography is delicate, the costumes are safe, and the acting is well done. The epic, while fictional, is based on right cases of Tibetan Lamas who have reincarnated in the West. As a companion to this film, I would recommend Vickie McKenzie’s book, “Reborn in the West,” which chronicles several such real-life cases. In fact, it was after reading McKenzie’s book that I noticed this film and decided to thought it.

Little Buddha is a wonderfully racy and historically moral film. The record has two plots, making it confusing at some times. One tells of a Buddhist priest searching for the reincarnation of his boring teacher, while the other tells the yarn of Siddhartha Guatama, the Buddha. (Played by Keanu Reeves)

As far as the acting goes, this film gets five stars from me. Siddhartha, (Reeves) is played beautifully, along with Lisa Conrad, (Bridget Fonda) and Lama Norbu. (Ruocheng Ying) Another plus about the acting are the three children who played the candidates for the reincarnation of the teacher. I especially liked Gita, who is the only girl candidate.

I liked the costumes, too, as they are historically suitable, and stand out with the shining colors and makeup. I found it unfamiliar that the men wore makeup, but they do, and the film portrays it brilliantly.

All along I have been mentioning how historically moral this film is. I have been saying this because it is the truth. Not only is the account of Siddhartha factual, but all of the facts about Buddha and Buddhism are too. If you know nothing about the religion, watching this film will give you a basic introduction to Buddhism.

There are two things that would have made this film better. If it did not flash so worthy between the two plots, it would have been less confusing. Also, I did not like the music. I don’t know if it objective was not my type or if it didn’t go with the movie, but I didn’t like it. Microscopic Buddha is a grea movie and I recommend watching it, but don’t slay your money on the soundtrack.

I am a expansive fan of Star Wars. YEs, I am an ‘Original Fan”. And why is being an ‘Original’ fan percieved so negatively? If you are an unique Beatles fan, the newer fans ask you with reverence what it was like seeing them in concert, etc. etc. (No, I am not fortunate enough to be an ‘original’ Beatles fan. I wasn’t even born in 1964.) Unique Star Wars fans are called oldtimers and accused of not letting go of the past and not appreciating that times change.

Mr. Rehnquist wrote in his review “I ask, who would want to scrutinize weak, outdated movies in this age of advanced technology? ” Well, I hope the retort is “Many People”. My fancy of movies is not based on the level of special effects. Should we no longer peep the immense primitive shadowy and white films of the past because they are ‘old and outdated’? No more Bogie and Bacall? No more Hepburn and Tracy? What about Gene Kelly? Jimmy Stewart?

The thing Mr. Lucas is forgetting is that more is not always better- in an interview when the movies first came out, he was quoted as saying that the predicament with the Sci-Fi genre in general was that so many moviemakers forgot about the epic. The movies ended up being built around the special effects.

Unfortunately, Mr. Lucas is adding all of these scenes and filming the newer movies (Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones) with nothing but the possibilities of these special effects in mind. He has lost the story; it had become secondary to the special effects.

I had no scrape with the celebratory scenes added at the slay of “Return of the Jedi” but I do have a quandary with some of the other scenes. Han shot Greedo. Greedo did not shoot first. It is ridiculous to change this. Han’s change of heart and redemption are more considerable when you know he was a mercenary! He was always looking out for himself. That’s how he survived! He was in it for the money, and found himself inexplicably drawn to the people of the Rebellion. That’s kindly story-telling.

The predicament is that Mr. Lucas has taken the liberty of CHANGING powerful of the chronicle with these scenes.

Mos Eisley was supposed to be a dusty, deserted town. Tatooine is on the outer rim of the galazy. It’s an unimportant, dusty, underpopulated planet. What I saw in the “Special Editions” was a thriving, well-populated town.

I would happily catch the special edition versions if I knew Lucas intended on eventually releasing the fresh versions on DVD as well. I’d take both.

We’re not trying to erase the movies you care for. If you like the “Special Editions” Spacious! I am jubilant. I would never articulate any of you to shut up or that your opinions were listless and your views outdated as we have been told by Mr. Rehnquist.

*Very splendid production desgin. The characters search for phenomenal, the settings examine consuming, and the Witchblade weapon itself is incredibly awesome.

*The main character has some very tall…ahem…fan service.

*Aside from that, the protagonist is a tremendous character who shows compelling emotion and awesome wickedness. The other characters are large, and their drama is very immersive.

*Storyline is gigantic, especially since this rendition is remarkable more sci-fi and fantasy orientated.

*Look out for one or two inside jokes.

The Poor Things

*Don’t know how honest it is to the modern silly book. It is certainly different than the 2001 live-action TV demonstrate. But this version is aloof quite delightful.

*Not for kids; rated TV-MA for bloody violence.

This anime version of the silly book “Witchblade” definately makes for some awesome anime. It is engrossing, and a apt epic with valid characters. There is hardly anything insensible about this demonstrate, and is probably one of the best to have advance out in novel years. Highly reccomended to any anime fan, and probably to most fans of the comics.

I actually have a few of the comics of the Witchblade from the 90’s and also the live-action exhibit so after seeing a few episodes of this series I decided to gain this as well. The shows main Witchblade holder is a woman by the name of Masane Amaha who also has a young daughter she loves deeply by the name of Rihoko Amaha when Masane unwittingly becomes interested in the Witchblade agendas. Apparently their are positive factions that have been searching for the reemergence of the Witchblade after a faction had it stolen from them and it was later lost though. After an episode or two you accept out Masane is the fresh holder of the WB and is attractive grand kidnapped by one of the factions to control the recent WB holder and its power. The series is hard-core with plenty of action and bloody violence so it’s definitely not for younger kids. There are also sexual undertones but not anything to r-rated so don’t distress about any just adult scenes if teenagers notice this. The characters they made for the demonstrate are extremely keen Masane is a kind loving parent but seems at most time to somewhat of a ditz and the character of Reiji Takayama(One of the scientist from the faction that firsts kidnapped Masane) is also a nice character for the point to. I like how Renji who after having been betrayed before by someone is at first stoic and objective professional to Masane seeing her as unbiased an experiment but after opening up to her more becomes a more caring and loving person again especially after meeting her daughter. The series is dramatic but has its comic scenes kind of like Bleach a microscopic bit. The video is wide-screen and determined and intelligent so no problems with that. The audio is also titanic and the announce actors both for the English and Japanese cast did an improbable job for their characters. So if you like the hot action warrior women with plenty of fighting and a touch of sci-fi this series might impartial be a superior position for your library….

I have to admit, I’m a graceful vast Utena fan. Impartial ask anyone who knows me. But the episodes contained on this disc are some of the best of the series. Some people complain about the drawn-out nature of the series, dueling people over and over again, and yes, it’s good that you could probably skip the entire second arc and unruffled be able to pick up up with what’s going on.

A few years ago, on a heavenly sunny March day, I visited the house and grounds of the Rodin museum, formerly the home of Auguste Rodin. The museum sits very arrive a hospital Napoleon commissioned and is in a central tourist plot, but it was not overrun with tourists the day I visited.

The weather was so nice, I decided to have lunch in the pavillion on the grounds and eventually spent half a day wondering around the various scuptures situated indoors and outside. The ‘Thinker’ sat contemplating a nearby bush while a microscopic bird landed on his shoulder, and Balzac looked down in triump from his pedestal. But, inside the house, I found a minute room dedicated to the work of Camille Claudel, and here I paused the longest. It struck me then that while Rodin dealt with the external, Claudel dealt with the internal–the soul. I’m a slight fan of sculpture, but the marble pieces Claudel worked with her hands are improbable. “Life-like” does not say enough. One allotment, a marble bust of a child’s head and shoulders took my breath away. I kept waiting for the child to breathe. I checked to look if she was breathing. The only pieces I have seen that are comparable were executed by Micheangelo.

The film CAMILLE CLAUDEL is trustworthy of the heroine and her murky record. Rodin treated her badly, if for no other reason than he had no good to become sexually keen with her when she was his employee and he was a married man. Today he would be locked up for sexual harrassment, and Claudel would not expend most of her life locked up because she became “hysterical” after he dumped her.

But, Rodin’s greatest sin may have been that he became alive to with Claudel because he recognized her genius and he wanted to exploit it. Although Rodin certainly had some enthralling ideas, which he managed to achieve in a prolific plot (the Rodin house shows a continuous and ridiculous film of Rodin “creating” a sculpture), I don’t contemplate he was terribly innovative. In fact, if the “Thinker” had not been made into book ends, most people would probably not know who Rodin was.

Isabel Adjani plays Claudel. She is perfectly cast as Camille, and her performance is as beautiful as it was in Queen Margo. Adjani is one of France’s best living actresses–in fact, I believe she is the best. Gerhard Depardieu plays Rodin, and he well cast as the spacious, fleshy, inarticulate, egocentric artist. In fact, he looks exactly like the man in the runt film I saw in Paris, objective as Adjani looks like the Claudel from her portraits.

The film was shot in Paris, and distinguished of the footage taken at the Rodin museum, a Chateau constructed by a 18th Century Aristocrat who died at the hands of Madame Guilliotine. Retract the film and then visit the Rodin museum in Paris to spy Claudel’s work.

I began watching this film on a leisurely night of insomnia….it didn’t benefit me to sleep and that’s a pleasurable thing!

Isabelle Adjani artfully plays right life French sculpturess, Camille Claudel. She displays pure emotion and passionate reactions such that she is completely believable as the tragic yet talented Claudel. Claudel becomes Auguste Rodin’s assistant and eventual lover/muse. They fight and compete for fame together and seperately with Claudel always the more talented but underscored by Rodin’s jealously and fierce connections to the art world. In the slay Claudel succumbs to a broken and ravaged heart betrayed in many ways by her one accurate like, Rodin.

I recently returned from a hobble to Paris and having seen first hand the sculptures created by Claudel and Rodin I am even more impressed with this tragic sage of talented yet conflicted artists. To notice the positive gentleness with which Claudel can lop marble and to feel the warmth that stems from a slab of frosty stone left me mesmerized by her talent. Rodin appears clumsy and inept next to her creations despite his world reknown fame. I will always wonder what a woman of her talent could have created had she been alive today and not under the influence of an egotistical maniac!

Don’t let the title fool you. Although this is one of the sweetest movies you’ll ever notice, it is no beach blanket bingo for bimbos. This is an Aussie chronicle of teen esteem dwelling in 1965, valorous as only teens can play it. It is fun to behold, authentic and modern at the same time, a coming of age flick in the English boarding school tradition of “Expressionless Poet’s Society” (1989) and “A Separate Peace” (the fresh, not the so-so movie) . Noah Taylor stars as Danny Embling, an outsider who reads Sartre and Camus while satirizing the school’s empty traditions. Across the lake is the girl’s school where Thandiwe Adjewa (Thandie Newton), daughter of the Ugandan ambassador, is learning to meld with the Aussie pale faces, including a gifted pre-Hollywood Nicole Kidman.

Thandie Newton and Noah Taylor, as beautifully directed by John Duigan, are the reasons this film is so obliging. She has a valiant integrity about her that overcomes the prejudices of her school mates. He is wise and bold at a hundred and twenty pounds. She too is ultra sophisticated. She even met Sartre. This is a epic about the savor between two outsiders who, with their strength of character regain over not only their classmates, but the audience as well. Imagine teenagers as witty and poised as say Eartha Kitt and Gore Vidal, and you win a hint of how it’s played.

Nicole Kidman as the snobby Nicola Radcliffe (the name says it all) manages a subtle supporting role with a diamond-in-the-rough kind of charm and honest the lawful touch of on-screen growth. The scene where she shares her stash of vodka (or perhaps a definite fruit liquor) with Thandiwe Adjewa is beautifully turned by Director John Duigan. Also profitable is the hotel scene where the adults are revealed as intrusive in the vulgar. I like Danny Embling’s line as he deadpans to a re-robing Thandiwe, “They’re all droll, aren’t they? ” Yes, those adults are a slight queer.

This is not unflawed, however. The ending, despite the rousing music, seemed a bland washout, leaving us with a sense of disappointment. And I belief the first treasure scene with the two “touching” was a miniature unreal. I mean he might have kissed her! There’s a limit to how tall a coming of age, boarding school movie can be, especially when the adults have only scarecrow parts. Nonetheless “Flirting” is a confectioner’s delight, and one of the best coming of age movies I’ve ever seen.

I rated this movie 5 stars, but like Alp d’Huez in the Tour de France, this is “beyond category”. This feels and sounds like right life. Don’t consider cinema ever gets any closer to matching a really suitable book than this movie manages. I don’t know if any of this is autobiographical, but it determined feels like it. Actors only give performances this unbelievable when the script they are working with is extra special, and this script qualifies on all levels. Can’t say enough about the performances of the leads, Noah Taylor and Thandie Newton, the movie hinges on the emotional connection they design and it all works like magic. This is a DVD to acquire, not rent. You will want to glance this over and over again, objective like a ample book.

This is the perfect gift for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. My 4-yr-old son came from China in May and he already knows all of SS’s letters and numbers of the day, and he has learned words and whole phrases from the episodes. Admittedly, he watches these videos over and over (and over and over and over), but they’re tremendous educational tools and you don’t have to misfortune about violence, sex, guns, or the underrepresentation of most any groups (at least in the newest skits) . Yes – I have to read while he watches SS because I now know every single line, but long after his savor for other movies has gone, he mild clings to SS. I have nothing terrible to say about SS.

I bought it as a gift for Christmas because it was on the list my sister gave me. She was very cheerful to catch it, but seemed disappointed that it was only one disc with 6 episodes. I was horrified to inaugurate it when it arrived to gawk that I had paid $25 for one disc. But if someone really wants it, I guess what else are you going to do? As a gift, I probably would have opted for a gift that gave a microscopic more for my money.
